W.A.S.P. "Shadow Man" / KISS "God of Thunder"

Post by schultzcore »

Wow, W.A.S.P. shamelessly rips the "God of Thunder" main riff on the lead track "Shadow Man" (from its 2002 release 'Dying for the World').

Hear it first at the :30 mark.

For me, it's a mix of "God of thunder" and "Enter sandman"....

Somewhat similar but if you hadn't pointed it out, I would never have made the connection.

Makes a change from Blackie ripping off his own songs  The recycle king.

Was going to say the same thing. Recycling is a good description of his writing. But the guys vocals and performance is so intense that it still seems like his own IMO.

Agreed. Guitar is buried under the drums and other noise, unlike in GOT, where the riff is mixed on top.
Some part of the riff is identical.

It's almost a direct mash-up of God Of Thunder and Enter Sandman.

Only hear it now when pointed out. It's done nicely, no problem for me. Always liked WASP, cool tune.

Does Blackie have any friends in the music business? He even made enemies with Dio and Lemmy.

You're right.

Regardless, that's a cool-ass song.

I only heard it when pointed out too.

I have loved them from day one. Saw them a few times live and put on a great show. Even saw them open for Kiss on the Asylum tour.

I appreciate how they've stuck it out and kinda done their own thing.I know a lot see them as a joke, but They've got a lot of strong material.

Yep! And back in 2002, it was this song and the album "Dying for the World" that got me back into W.A.S.P. big time after paying very little (no) attention to Blackie and his merry little band for many years. It was fun going back and discovering everything I missed since "Inside the Electric Circus".

Thanks a lot, now I’ve gone down the WASP rabbit hole😂😂. I’ve never really listens to them before, other than a few of the singles they’ve released, or videos I’ve seen. They’re cover of The Real Me is fantastic. I’m actually pleasantly surprised at how melodic their stuff is. Their later stuff is really good too, from what I’ve heard so far.

Great song on a great album (WASP) - I'd never noticed the likeness before, I doubt they sat and thought about ripping GoT, it just turned out similar.
