The event was "Initiated by Washington D.C. businessman and philanthropist, Joseph E. Robert, Jr., CEO of the J.E. Robert Companies" (RtC PR) to provide a celebratory concert to some 25,000 Marines and their families. When the event took place the acts performed in front of some 36,000. Due to the nature of the event, being filmed in high-definition and recorded for future release, it is not currently clear how "live" KISS' performance, or any of the other acts, was. They may have used canned music, with live vocals, or some other arrangement, to ensure the best possible quality for producer Quincy Jones to use. KISS performed "Detroit Rock City," "Deuce," "Love Gun," "God Gave Rock And Roll To You II," and "Rock And Roll All Nite" with plenty of pyro in the first live test of Paul's hip.
"Rockin' The Corps" was released to theatres premiering on June 26 "in Washington, D.C., at an event hosted by "Rockin' The Corps" founder Joseph E. Robert, Jr. On Monday, June 27, special screenings were held on 150 screens in 75 top markets throughout the United States at Regal, Edwards and United Artists theatres as part of their Big Screen Concert series through their national Cinemedia division" (Image Entertainment PR). A portion of the ticket proceeds were to be donated to the "Support The Corps" charity. As soon as the theatre showings had been completed the charity announced the release date for the packaged product. The event was released on September 6 as an edited DVD/CD and included three of KISS' songs: "Detroit Rock City," "Love Gun," and "Rock And Roll All Nite."
