Inside The "Alive! 1975-2006" Box Set

While some may consider the "Alive! 1975-2006" Box Set an unnecessary rehash, it does feature new remasters of "Alive!" and "Alive II" in a single disc format, plus a new remaster of the international/vinyl version of "Alive III," plus the previously unreleased "Alive: The Millenium Concert," that should have been released as "Alive IV" in 2001. I've bashed the packaging of KISS items for years. Little anal mistakes, lack of attention to detail, and other issues have annoyed me. Some may find this package pointless, yet for $19.99 (at Best Buy) it is hard to fault for value - That's nearly as much as I'd have to pay at Virgin in San Francisco for a single disc CD.

Most importantly is the contents, the music. But for once the packaging is absolutely excellent. It's hard to fault (except that I'd like Alive Millenium as a stand-alone jewel-case CD. The travesty is undone. I finally have my full (nearly) live commemorative of the Reunion. The 4-panel digipak is nicely done, the 72 page booklet includes plenty of stuff apart from reproductions of the original album booklets. Even the lack of the Best Buy bonus tracks, while annoying, is not the end of the world.

So, if you're sitting on the fence considering buying the product, or simply want a peak, here's a look inside the box...

Plastic slip-case, keep that damned digipak together!

Front, back, and side, plus internal panels. Roadcase design. Looks better in reality.

The CDs. Each features a pseudo-holographic effect featuring the cover artwork of the specific CD. Nice touch.

CD Trays.

A few pages from the massive booklet.
