Friday, April 18, 2008 4:05:24 AM - KISSFAQ's "Concertography" updated...

The KISSFAQ "Concertography, 2002-8" has become the KISSFAQ "Concertography, 1998-2008" with a massive update. While the feature covers the band's touring history (plus solo outings by Paul and Ace) post 2002, it has been expanded to include the "Psycho Circus" and "Farewell" tours. The feature now includes line charts of tour sales figures, dating back to 1996, and will eventually encompass KISS live history from 1993. It is not a replacement for the unbelievably awesome "KISS Alive Forever," but a supplement. This feature changes regularly as data is added: The "Farewell" song performance list is currently being worked on, and once KISS and Ace resume their tours the document will be updated on a daily basis! So check it out, HERE (Adobe Acrobat Reader FREE Download required).

Both films were directed by Adam Rifkin who will apparently be present along with actor Bill Paxton.

Thursday, April 17, 2008 4:48:51 AM - KISSOLOGY III Week 16 Chart news...
8X platinum "KISSOLOGY III" fell off the top-40 Music Video Charts this week. During its consecutive 15 week run the package charted as high as #3. While the video may re-enter the charts, it is the shortest-charting video in the series. KISSology Vol. 1 charted for 28 weeks, reaching #1. KISSology Vol. 2 charted for 20 weeks, also reaching #1. Regardless, all of the packages have been very successful!

Monday, April 14, 2008 12:51:09 PM - KISS My Ankh... A Tribute to Vinnie Vincent...
Vinnie Vincent Tribute Album Announced

As revealed during the March 15th episode of "Talking Metal on Fuse," SplitScreen Entertainment has announced its upcoming tribute album, KISS MY ANKH: A Tribute To Vinnie Vincent. Though Vinnie himself has not released any new material in over a decade, KISS MY ANKH will pay tribute to the undeniable musical legacy of the former Kiss guitarist. Vinnie's compositions are widely regarded as a highlight of the Kiss catalog and remain a staple of the live Kiss set list. Included on the tribute will be selections from the three Kiss albums to which Vinnie contributed, as well as the two albums he released with the Vinnie Vincent Invasion. Participating artists and track listings will be announced as they are confirmed.

KISS MY ANKH: A Tribute To Vinnie Vincent is scheduled for a Summer 2008 release.

Sunday, April 13, 2008 8:21:38 AM - KISS Belgrade Show officially cancelled...
KISS' May 15 concert at USCE Stadium in Belgrade, Serbia has now been cancelled: According to PR, "We regret that due to security concerns relayed by US government intelligence and the unwillingness of our tour insurance policy to cover our concert, we have been left with no choice but to cancel our show in Belgrade. Because of our excitement at returning to play for our many Serbian fans, we all share in the same disappointment and it is our hope to return soon" (KISS Online). However, the cancellation of the show had been rumored for more than a week prior to the official announcement. Additionally, with the riots that followed the declaration of independence by Kosovo, and US recognition of the break-away state, the cancellation was hardly surprising. Serbian rioters broke into the US Embassy in Belgrade and burned it.

KISSFAQ Says: I won't go into the politics, but I do wonder if the shows in Russia could also be at risk due to known social issues there and the political relationship between the two governments, particularly in light of the Kosovo incident. I'd hope that Russian fans finally get the opportunity to have KISS visit them, but KISS' 1999 shows in Russia were also cancelled due to issues in the region.

Saturday, April 12, 2008 12:13:21 PM - The Hallmark of KISS...
Guess you've really made it when a Hallmark card mocks you...

Hmmm...

Saturday, April 12, 2008 12:13:21 PM - "The Very Best of KISS" reissue...
The 2002 compilation was reissued as a digipak (Mercury/UTV Records B0010915-02) on March 25. The "eco-friendly package is 100% recyclable and biodegradable. It also includes a blow in card containing seeds for planting and allows you to get three free MP3 downloads from a selection of 30 titles." The front cover is a poorly cropped/expanded version of the original cover while the rear cover is changed to the more recent UMG style, still using the original image...

The CD included is the exact same as the 2002, right down to the release code. There is no booklet or track credit details, which is hardly surprising at the sub-$9 price via Walmart. I bought it so you won't have to...

Thursday, April 10, 2008 4:34:54 AM - KISSology Vol. 3: Week 16 / Box Score...
KISSology Vol. 3 drops to #38 on the Billboard Music Video chart. Billboard is also reporting the following "Box Score" for KISS' Acer Arena show in Sydney, Australia: 9,265 / 9,446 ($1,139,996)...

Thursday, April 10, 2008 4:34:54 AM - Bruce Kulick "KKB" project coming...

Bruce's "KKB" release is not a new project. In fact, it is more interesting as it dates back to the before the beginnings of Bruce's professional recording career! Recorded in September 1974, the material was the work of an unnamed band that Bruce was a member of, along with Mike Katz (bass) and Guy Bois (drums), and is in a "Cream meets Yes" style. The CD features:

I'll Never Take You Back
My Baby
You've Got A Hold On Me
Tryin' To Find A Way
Someday
You Won't Be There
To Be Free
You Won't Be There (Alternate Jam Take)

The CD will be officially released at the New York KISS Expo on May 3, and then available directly from Bruce, as a strictly limited hand-signed and numbered edition, from his website. Bruce also continues to work on a new solo album...

Tuesday, April 08, 2008 4:02:38 AM - Japanese Catalog SHM Reissues...
Joining KISS "Gold" for reissue on June 25 in Japan are reissues of the 1978 solo albums and a good chunk of the 1980-87 catalog. These reissues will be in the SHM format. SHM-CDs are simply Super High Material that "features enhanced audio quality through the use of a special polycarbonate plastic. Using a process developed by JVC and Universal Music Japan discovered through the joint companies' research into LCD display manufacturing, SHM-CDs feature improved transparency on the data side of the disc, allowing for more accurate reading of CD data by the CD player laser head. SHM-CD format CDs are fully compatible with standard CD players" (CD Japan). These will be in mini-LP style sleeves.

Music From "The Elder" (Universal UICY-93523)

The 1980s albums were last reissued in 2006 while the solo albums have been out of print since 2005. The SHM releases carry a premium for the "new material" with the CDs retailing for around ¥2,800 instead of the usual ¥1,600-2,000 range.

Sunday, April 06, 2008 6:38:41 AM - Another Universal Repackaging...

KISSFAQ Says: With the number of compilations already out there, wouldn't it simply be "greener" to not make 'em? Oh, we're talking about a different $ort of "green."

Saturday, April 05, 2008 5:35:53 AM - Ace completes US tour...

Ace Frehley completed the first proper leg of his US tour last night in his home town of New York City. In front of a packed house, Ace ripped through the solid set of material from his history. Ace's powerful and tight performances have been receiving rave reviews from the fans, impressed by Ace's return to form. Ace's next stop is England for two shows. He has another batch of US dates scheduled for May, before his first ever solo shows on mainland Europe. Stay healthy Ace! (And hopefully see you again!)
