ISSUE #1
ABC "In Concert"

As part of the limited promotional activities arranged to support the release of KISS' first band the ABC "In Concert" performance marked the band's very first appearance on national television. Hosted by Dick Clark, the band's performance was filmed at the Aquarius Theater in Los Angeles, CA on February 21, 1974. Gene was briefly interviewed by a somewhat bemused Dick Clark in an interview where he showed a cockiness more readily seen in an established rock star. Following the interview the band ripped through a performance of "Deuce," "Nothin' To Lose," "Firehouse," and "Black Diamond" to an audience that clearly didn't quite know what they were seeing.

According to the authors of "KISS Alive Forever," the masters for "Deuce" appear to have been lost, though it was not broadcast when the show aired on March 29. Regardless, the performance gave the audience what could not translate on the band's limited radio play: a visual reference between the name and sound of the band. It was something the directors of the show had been completely unprepared for. During rehearsals the band had not appeared in makeup and somewhat surprised the staff coming on in their makeup and costumes.

Featured on the "KISSOLOGY" DVD:
Nothin' To Lose
