Peter Criss Responded to My Email

I emailed him via his site and asked him how long he's been clean and sober. He responded in less than 24 hours. Here was his exact response:

You also know Peter answered you directly because of the misspelling of cocaine, and I'm not knocking it by any means, you just know he wrote that.
He seems to be in a great frame of mind.

I also think he's happy for Peter, and Ace. BUT any chance Gene always brings the drug and alcohol issues up. Ace has been sober for what 12 years and Peter has been sober now for 35. Gene has to stop with all the BS about the past, especially if it's been so long ago. But Gene makes it sound as if it were last month they were using.

Peter is perhaps the most accessable of the original 4. I used to have Peter's private email address (not sure if he still has it) and I would write to him and he would always write back and answer my questions.

Those guys - especially Paul - would love to see both Ace and Peter fall off the wagon. It plays right into their narcissism and it would give credence to the "drug addict" comments Gene has been wrongly spewing for years now.

Gotta love it. You won't see Gene or Paul, or Ace for that matter conversing with fans without payment. Lately I've been wondering what is wrong with those guys. Saw some video recently of the current band at a meet and greet. The walked in single file, none of them conversing with the other. Just looked like four strangers. At the Kiss cruise Paul and Gene never even sat down and said hello to Ace. They've known the guy for 40 years FFS. Heard an interview with J.J. French yesterday and he talked about how he knew Gene in the early days and actually auditioned for the band. He was one of a couple of people to see the band at the loft in NY. Turns out Twisted Sister did their final on a bill with KISS. Again, not even a hello from Gene or Paul. WTF is wrong with those guys? Are they simply incapable of having friendships outside of their therapists office?

Awesome. I sent an email to him a number of years ago and he replied within a couple of days as well. He sent me a very nice message about two paragraphs in length. That message had noticeable spelling and grammatical issues similar to yours haha. I have it framed in my kiss room.

I realize that I’m in the minority but I was lucky enough to meet Gene and get his autograph for free at a local Rock n Brews a few years back. Once in a while, he does show his gratitude and surprises fans with nice gestures.

As for Peter, I met him the same year a few months prior (not for free) at the Texas Frightmare event he did. His kindness and outgoing nature with every single fan in attendance was truly awesome. I have absolutely no doubt that those replies are directly from him.

True, but thats not the point. Its Peters timeline on being sober.

Peter was a cocaine addict. He didn't have a problem with other substances. It's never been a secret that he likes to drink a glass of wine, and also smoked weed at least in 90s if not still.

You wouldn't say I'm not sober even though I like to drink beer and smoke a doobie every few months in a social setting. If you called me an addict or not sober that would be nonsensical.

Same for Peter. I dont doubt he partied on the bad boys tour and got loose but there's a huge difference between that and a cocaine relapse.

Whereas Ace has a problem with all drugs and alcohol so he can't touch any of it.

I love the fact that we're seeing Peter's good side here, especially since I've spent decades knocking his drumming(I fell in love with Carr's double-bass drumming, and I loved Singer's work on 2 Black Sabbath albums.)
But, in short, Peter's style was the right style for KISS during his years with them. Belated props from me.
We've seen PLENTY of the jerk side of all 4 original members, so when I see or read something so friendly and personal from one of them(rather than a reply from a set of canned replies), it raises my opinion of them, even if just for a while.
But I'll always remember these two responses you got from Peter.
As a human being, I now officially place a white hat back on Criss' head. (Yes, the black cowboy hats look cooler, but you guys get my point I'm sure.)
