Eddie Trunk,John 5,Fred Coury discuss R&RO and Destroyer

Trunk Nation 11/15/17

"Eddie welcomes in both John 5 and Fred Coury as he resurrects a bit from "That Metal Show". It's the return of the "Trunk Throwdown"! It's KISS' Rock and Roll Over vs Destroyer for album supremacy."

What are your thoughts? Which album do you like better?

Destroyer all the way. Bob Ezrin was like Hellman's mayonnaise, he brought out the best. :)

RNRO was my 1st kiss album by far the best album. Peter was on fire with his bombastic Bonhamesque drumming Ace was on fire to great solos........

Trunk said Peters best drumming is on Destroyer. I don't agree i think his best drumming is on RNRO and Love Gun albums!

So cool, I have that blue tear RARO LP from RCA Records. Also includes the original inserts.

I'd say his best was in the early albums - Kiss and Hotter Than Hell in particular - but in retrospect, Destroyer was, for me, the lowest point by far.

He got his groove back with R&RO, but only fully recovered with Love Gun.

Sadly, we all know what followed afterwards...

RARO remains one of the most pure of the KISS catalog. It has more of a live feel than Alive 1 or 2 and it captures tbe band at the height of their powers before it really went more commercial w Love Gun. Theres not a filler track anywhere and all members have a song.

Better than Destroyer for several reasons:
1. Destroyer is a mixed bag of great as well as subpar songs and it doesnt flow well. WTF is Great Expectations?
2. RARO captured the band in its most pure form, much more than Destroyer
3. Destroyer has ghost players doing some Ace solos while RARO is all Ace!

I remembering buying RARO day one and it remains one of my favorite KISS albums. Ace's Making Love solo is his greatest solo next to Strange Ways, which is Ace's masterpiece!

Both of these are such classics. If rock & roll was a drug, then Destroyer is that drug cut with a lot of other ingredients...and the results knock me out, it's great! But as posted by others...Rock & Roll Over is pure Kiss. Bare bones, basic & without all the sonic extras. Plus it's my favorite Kiss studio album so it has to get the nod from me as much as I do love Destroyer

Great solo on that one too! Ace was at his peak as a guitarist from RARO thru his solo album. But Strange Ways solo is the essence of Ace. Absolute greatness on that solo!

Agreed 100%. Destroyer destroys RARO. If you want raw KISS, the first 3 albums are way better!

Re: Eddie Trunk,John 5,Fred Coury discuss R&RO and Destroyer

Heres what I boil it down to. What makes a great album? The most basic and obvious answer to this is the songs, right? Well by that criteria it HAS to be Destroyer! I'm not taking anything on RARO over Detroit Rock City. I'm not taking anything on RARO over God of Thunder. I'm not taking anything on RARO over King of the Night Time World. Etc.

Ace doesn’t have a song. Each his own of course but to my ears RARO sounds rather dull and lifeless in spots - plus tons of filler to my ears…

Not a big fan of RARO OR Destroyer for that matter. I much prefer DTK or LG over these two…

Re: Eddie Trunk,John 5,Fred Coury discuss R&RO and Destroyer

Now I get get confused about Eddie Trunk; I'll admit, I'm kind of out of the loop on whether he's a KISS fan this week or whether he hates them and "IS DONE" with them again; so forgive me - but I do have a questions about this interview. So because Ed is evidently so sensitive about KISS replacement members, I wonder is Ed OK with Freddy Coury? Because his picture - sure as shootin, appears on the Night Songs LP cover but it's really Jody Cortez who played every single percussion note on that album?

Ya' good with that Ed? Or are you calling that different than the Peter Criss' characture and photo appearing on Dynasty and Unmasked covers? Or like Ace's pic on COTN?
