Re: Bob Kulick's new album
The song linked here, "Not Before You" ... that poor singer, or whoever came up with the vocal melody ... they had to really work their ass off to come up with something that was listenable when singing over that horrible guitar riff that even 90s garage bands would have rejected. And even Zakk Wylde would be like "too much pinch harmonics, man."
The vocal melody for the pre-chorus and chorus are not bad, but the musical arrangement and production behind them are a mess.
The album cover art is embarrassing.

I reckon you're using the word listenable very loosely.goinblind wrote:The song linked here, "Not Before You" ... that poor singer, or whoever came up with the vocal melody ... they had to really work their ass off to come up with something that was listenable when singing over that horrible guitar riff that even 90s garage bands would have rejected. The overall sound is very much like the tribute albums he's produced- which I'm not a fan of. It sounds like a bunch of tracks stacked on top of each other. Nothing sounds cohesive.
I think I filtered out more of it than I actually heard. I was reading the notes on the page while it played. Doesn't anyone do any editing any more?
I give that track a solid Meh.

Bob Kulick played with Kiss on multiple occasions. He is on three different Kiss albums. Side four of alive II. Killers, and Paul's solo album. Bruce was in Kiss for years and he is also on the album. Also, The Kulicks were on the Kiss Cruise and that was posted here too. Bob also came very close to being in Kiss.

Man, pinch harmonics are cool like once or twice on a song on an album. It sounds like Bob think pinch harmonics are the coolest thing on universe and overuse it so much it's crazy. Who in their right mind (except Bob) uses pinch harmonics on a rhytm guitar during a solo? Jeeze...

Re: Bob Kulick's new album
Zakk Wylde overdid pinch harmonics to such an extent back in the day I can't hear or read about them without thinking of him. It's like when someone mentions lens flare and JJ Abrams comes to mind.Brost wrote:Man, pinch harmonics are cool like once or twice on a song on an album. Clearly Marcos "Big Daddy" Garcia liked it. He closed his review of the album by stating the following:Forevertj wrote:Doesn't anyone like it?

Re: Bob Kulick's new album
I'm sorry but FFS i laughed out loud at that
Thats honestly one of the shittiest riffs I've ever heard. Its like a Zakk Wilde parody riff or a joke by Steel Panther
You could almost visualize Bob pulling his lame stage moves whilst ripping all those pinch harmonics in the studio
And WTF is with that shitty album cover?
I don't mean to be harsh but FFS

It reminded me of Steel Panther too. I think the vocalist is Robin McCauley (MSG).
The girl on the cover is an exaggerated drawing of Bob's new girlfriend.

No, but I’ll admit I was mildly tempted. I probably would have bought KISSTERIA first.LordThurisaz wrote:Did you order the vault?KISSJeeper70 wrote:I don't have it, and my experimental music fund is DRY well past the holidays.Forevertj wrote:Doesn't anyone like it?

Jesus H Christ in a fart-powered gyrocopter, train wreck much?
As fine a player as Mrs. Kulick's eldest boy is, I've often wondered if he can write. This track proves he would have been to KISS what Joe Holmes was to Ozzy.

I tried to listen to Bob's album, it was boring.
And the album cover looks like it was taken off a MySpace page.

Love the review and ratings. I mean, a "9" for "originality?" This stuff was old hat many decades ago.
Bob needs to stick to Kiss cover bands and session playing. Go with what you do best.
