Your favorite vinyl studio side from the original era?
What's your favorite vinyl studio side from the original era?
Looking at them all listed makes me realize I really enjoy every single side of original era studio vinyl from Kiss. Even songs that aren't among my favorites work in the context of the album or the side where they appear.
For me, I'll have to go with side one of Rock & Roll Over: I Want You/Take Me/Calling Dr Love/Ladies Room/Baby Driver
There are no wrong choices, what's yours?

Re: Your favorite vinyl studio side from the original era?
Kind of difficult for me to pick one side (or even one album). Right now I picked Paul's solo side 1, but maybe later (as in tomorrow, next week, or later today) it could be the debut's side 1, or Alive 2's side 4, or Dynasty's side 1...

Side 1 Paul Stanley solo
The ONLY side out of the list that's completely flawless.
In my opinion.

Side 1 of Dynasty is perfect.
I know 2,000 Man is a cover, but damn
Ace really made it his own and it rocks.
Dirty Livin is my favorite Peter song.
Love pop/disco Paul.

I did have a tough time. Hard Luck Woman is an all-time favorite of mine. But overall, I think side one is the better of the two.Klankh79 wrote:Crimson Harpoon wrote:I concur.Ironfist76 wrote:Side 1-Rock And Roll Over

heh. HLW is the only song on there i dont like. it ruins what would otherwise be a completely unspoiled, seamless stream of misogyny and cocksmanship that makes the album so rowdy, GOD i love it.....!!Crimson Harpoon wrote:I did have a tough time. Re: Your favorite vinyl studio side from the original era?
HLW is a great song. Without songs like it (along with Beth, Great Expectations and others), KISS would have been an EXTREMELY one note band. For me, Hard Luck Woman was the first song that made KISS not seem like a novelty act. I hate to put it like this, but it was more like "real music" that could have been done by more respected artists. Hell, it was written by Paul to be taken to Rod Stewart, so...Klankh79 wrote:heh. Had to choose between Kiss - 1, HTH -1 or Ace - 1
Went for HTH side 1 because of Ace is not a real KISS album and Kiss side 1 has Let me know which I don't really like much.

I was also contemplating side one of Destroyer, but... As popular as it is, I'm not much of a Detroit Rock City fan. The rest of side one is spectacular. Yes, even Great Expectations. In fact, it's that song that elevates it above being typical.Mello wrote:Side 2 of the debut

Interesting to see side four of Alive II hasn't received a single vote yet...Then again, only 48 votes as of this post. Have you picked your favorite side yet?

I feel you, but the good news is you can't lose with either of those choices!Dr Like wrote:I feel stupid - I voted for Alive II side four because a) I genuinely like it, and b) I felt sorry for it.
But as soon as I did it, I realized that I prefer Love Gun side 2. Equally deserving of pity and I like it more!

Both sides of Paul's 78 solo destroy (pun intended) anything KISS did before them.

I went with side 1 of RARO, just beating out side 1 of HTH and side 1 Destroyer by a frog's hair!
Something about that opening of I Want You brings me back to the days of sitting in my room on the floor as a 6 year old kid listening to that record.

Re: Your favorite vinyl studio side from the original era?
It is a tough choice. If you're a fan of original era Kiss there's a lot to love here
I'm glad Hotter Than Hell side two got a vote - I always loved that simple hesitant riff on All the Way, right through to that monster solo from Ace in Strange Ways...It's a great side for sure
So far nobody favors side 2 of Love Gun or of Unmasked, or the 2nd side from any of the solo albums. I wonder which will be last to receive a vote or if they'll all remain unchosen

Yes. I always loved the lyrics to "All the Way" too. And the cowbell! "Watching You" is also a great track, so are "Coming Home" and "Mainline". So many great KISS songs. I really enjoy all of those albums.
