Hopefully it'll have some Boom and Monster songs on it that never got past the Stanley/Collins team; and while we're at it, might as well throw that Your Wish Is Our Command or whatever it's called in there... Doesn't look like the band is headed for the studio anytime soon.

This.

While I have no problem paying for music, I'm shocked at the prices certain people are still willing to pay for things that are obvious crap... such as most record store day items, novelty LPs (but it glows in the dark!) and box sets like this product allegedly will be.

Basically like you said. A ton of money will get shelled out, and then it'll collect dust there on afterwards and rarely get looked at, listened to or displayed to justify the cost.

RIDICULOUS!!

That is not what he meant, trust me. He means he will only debut "Are You Ready" at his shows and nowhere else so If you want to hear it, you need to take in a show. He's looking for a way to fill more seats.

Yeah not for 10 CDs. Even Simmons won't try and sell it for $10,000.
I mean if Pink Floyd's 27 disc set was able to be kept around $500, Geno can't expect folks to fork out so much more for way less.
I'd say around the $100 USD.
Maybe this is the financial model that eludes KISS?

Yep pretty much. Mind you KISS are not as big as sellers as Floyd, nor were their "unreleased" material as infamous and lusted after.

I'm sure at least some of it would be interesting to hear, but I'm wondering about the sound quality, though ... while a demo could sound like "Doncha Hesitate" the majority of these more than likely will sound like they were recorded on a portable tape recorder in Gene's hotel room. And I really don't know how he could charge hundreds of dollars for that, no matter how many discs it covers.

Yeah, I'm only interested if Gene releases something like Nothing Safe: Best of the Box or Sliver: The Best of the Box. Leave all of the rip offs, second rate Beatles tunes, and other half-assed garbage in a ditch on the side of the road, and gimme the best of the best.

After the extended Love Gun release a few years back, I'm done with buying official releases.

It's too bad he couldn't get Paul to join in so this could be the massive KISS box we wanted in 2002, but I'm glad Gene's still going for it and finally getting it out soon.

I'd sure like a high grade copy of the original Love's A Deadly Weapon, for example. But I imagine Paul will still make a few cameo appearances at least - say on the dual lead vocal version of Not For The Innocent.

What many people seem unaware of is some of the best KISS songs have been left off official album releases. Gene's demo boxed set will be a goldmine. We've all heard his demos from the 70s and 80s floating around...plus many songs he gave away to other bands in the 80s would have been much stronger as KISS songs. Paul had a lot of say over what songs went on albums after Vinnie left, and considering the amount of crap songs Paul "co-wrote" afterward (no better than Gene's in most cases, and never as heavy) I am anxious to see what Gene selects for this release. I'm excited that he's releasing "Legends Never Die", "It's My Life", "So Many Girls So Little Time" and other Creatures demos, certainly some of Gene's strongest and heaviest. If he stays away from his super-early stuff, the boxed set will be much more solid. His early writing was abysmal. Plus I love Gene's guitar playing...so raunchy and crunchy. You could always tell when Gene was playing rhythm guitar on KISS songs. Listening to some classic Eric Carr drum parts will also be a bonus for this release. Can't wait.

Nope, it's a Gene box set, which is someone whose been characterized by multiple people associated with KISS as the type who didn't know what was good enough and would submit 25 songs of which 3-4 would be usable, whereas Paul would submit 5-6 and all or most of them would be usable. That's why I have doubts about a Gene box set. Gene's two solo albums, while I enjoy the 78 one for the most part, are also why I have doubts.

I also have close to zero interest in this as well. Might be interested in Gene's stuff during 82-83, but other than that, not exactly interested in this at all.

I suppose that could be another reason Paul isn't doing this with him - he'd be outnumbered in demos to an absurd degree.

Or Gene's cache of Beatles ripoffs that weren't "good" enough to make it on other KISS albums. Frankly, I think the ones we got on Destroyer, 78 and Psycho Circus are enough.

I always considered Gene's demos/unused songs much better tho' than Paul's by far. Especially in the 80's, Paul's stuff is real shit. But just because something didn't get on an album doesn't mean it sucks, in Gene's case, he probably wrote plenty of stuff that simply would not have fit on a Kiss album. And then you have stuff like his Asylum demos were are really good "Kiss" songs. Looking very forward to this set.

Most of Gene's Kiss stuff is terrible.

After the first two albums...Gene's phoned it in for all but...Elder, Creatures, Carnival, and Psycho Circus....and he didn't even play on most of his songs in that time.

But if The Street Giveth and the Street Taketh Away is what made it to Hot In The Shade, I sure as shootin' don't want to hear what was rejected.

I agree, completely, but apparently it's in the works. The price includes a major event in addition to receiving the box set. I was a told not to tell what it is, so I'm honoring that. Still, the logistics of it seem nearly impossible, and I suspect Gene will have to seriously revise the price package deal he's proposing. Originally, there were talks of it being a Punisher bass included, but that's been nixed, apparently. When more info comes that I'm allowed to reveal, I'll tell it here first.

Your example for reason this box set would suck was the Paul teaching demo. Not the the three unreleased Gene demos which were very decent.

That's what my response too, but that was the only way Gene would go with any company. They had to accept the terms, and they did.

Someone said "They simply don't know how to present this stuff" in regards to Love Gun. My reply? That was in reference to Love Gun. When you mentioned the Gene Box Set, I pointed out why I didn't think this would be worth even buying a best of the box style 1-2 disc version.

If it's more than just the typical M&G or songwriting session thing he does, that could be interesting.

This is going to be awesome.

I love all Gene's solo stuff and most of his KISS songs as well.

I also have close to zero interest in this as well. Might be interested in Gene's stuff during 82-83, but other than that, not exactly interested in this at all.

While I generally like Gene's material, I have almost no interest in this either. I'm really past the point of caring. That said, once it hits the bargain bins (which I believe will happen fairly quickly), I'll probably pick it up just to add to the collection. My best guess is that it's something I'll listen to once then it will collect dust.

Yeah not for 10 CDs. Even Simmons won't try and sell it for $10,000.
I mean if Pink Floyd's 27 disc set was able to be kept around $500, Geno can't expect folks to fork out so much more for way less.
I'd say around the $100 USD.
$10k price is happening.
If the the 10k asking price is the only way to get it, Rhino would not be involved.
That's what my response too, but that was the only way Gene would go with any company. They had to accept the terms, and they did.
Why would they accept these terms ? Rhino is a company that wants to make money. They are like the Scream Factory of RnR. They do smaller runs of stuff that has a limited appeal to a devoted audience at a slightly inflated price. A 10cd box set at a 10k retail price is not something they would put out if that was the only option

There has been mention of a cheapish version to be available, but nothing more than a possibility at this point. Believe me, I'm as baffled as you are by the notion of Rhino picking this up at Gene's ridiculous price tag, but apparently it's happening...

Where did this "$10k" pricetag rumor come from?
