1978 ACE SOLO COVER MORPH INTO ORIGINAL IMAGE

I created and uploaded a slideshow for New York Groove on youtube today. It features a morph of the '78 album cover and original image used to create the painting. Also featured are the images used for the cartoon poster.

Thanks. Unfortunately I do not have "fuller" framed shots of Gene, Paul, and Peter so that I can show the entire head/hair and partial body as I was able to do with Ace.

So that's a Levine shot on the perspex cube things they're standing on? How has no one worked this out before? This comes up on here every year and people post pictures that are really similar but have never nailed it ...

I hate posting on this site because I dread always having to log in to do so - but I had to log in and thank the creator of that video!!!

Boy does that bring it all back. It's hard to describe to younger people how New York actually was back in the 70's.
Before Rudy did the big cleanup up its was just a seedy place - but full of character.

For New York/Ace fans - that video was friggin awesome - THANK YOU.

Also, I caught Ace last night in Times Square - good show and Ace was in good spirits.

I agree with everybody else in saying "cool!". And I do not doubt that you found the right photo.

Still, three things come to mind.:

1) Why does Ace's eyes appear more unevenly placed on the painting than on the photo (now that you morph them, that seems to be a trompe l'oeil).
2) Why does Ace keep his mouth open on the painting, but not on the photo?
3) And finally, isn't it weird that they were so often photographed in their heyday, and still, so much publicity material from that time (Double Platinum, Solo Albums, tour books...) derive from a select few shots?

Very true, but even Barry Levine said (in his book) that Ace and Peter were difficult to do photo shoots with.

They would either arrive late, high or not show up at all. That could be the reason why they used those photos so many times over...
..but they are great shots.

Artists' interpretation. Ace's eyes and makeup are right on point. His mouth, nose, and chin are altered. You look at a painting and say oh yes thats the person by the eyes - thats what makes it relative/relatable.
I still say Peter's solo album cover might be the mylar shot IN HIS '78 SOLO SONG BOOK. I dont have the book but if someone here does and can provide the image from it I could morph it and see if its a better fit.

I also believe GENE's FACIAL OUTLINE was taken from this attached image, at least the bottom chin area. I could be wrong (sorry for the low quality image is in reverse and I took a photo using my mirror).
All of the solo artwork was altered in some form; Paul's rose removed. Gene and Ace chin area (Ace neck/costume area). Peter I still say the angle is very slightly off and it matches the mylar shot in his '78 songbook but again, I could be wrong. Peter was basically a corpse and didn't provide many facial changes in photo shoots.

very cool.the solo albums take me back to that time,especially ace's.imo a pretty mysterious time in their career.my holy grail would be footage of the guys in the studio recording these songs.
